**Deep Down Winery Profile**
Deep Down Winery, located in Marlborough, New Zealand, is dedicated to crafting honest, organic wines with minimal intervention. Founded by Clive Dougall and Peter Lorimer, Deep Down reflects their lifelong passion for organic practices and exceptional winemaking. Both men, in their early forties, have spent their careers in wine—Peter as a sommelier and wine broker in the UK and US, and Clive as head winemaker at Seresin, New Zealand’s leading biodynamic producer.
Specializing in small-batch, single-vineyard wines, Deep Down produces Sauvignon Blanc, Blanc, Chardonnay, and sulphur-free Pinot Noir. The winery embraces wild fermentation and avoids synthetic additives, creating wines that are a pure reflection of Marlborough’s unique terroir. Clive’s years of experience overseeing organic ferments inspired their commitment to transparency and natural winemaking methods.
Starting without the resources to own a vineyard or winery, Peter and Clive mortgaged their homes to buy organic grapes from trusted growers for their 2019 vintage, producing 1,500 cases. Their shared vision is to craft wines that break the mold, making organic, delicious wines accessible while preserving the land. Clive, as president of Organic Winegrowers New Zealand (OWNZ), continues to lead by example, ensuring every bottle of Deep Down wine is crafted with care, integrity, and authenticity.
